Test Method(s):
    · AATCC 100

AATCC100, Assessment of Antibacterial Finishes on Textile Materials

Scope: To provide a quantitative procedure for the evaluation of the degree of antibacterial activity, for leaching antimicrobial agents that will result in a zero of inhibition. Also to provide a clearer picture for possible uses of such treated textile materials.

  • Test and control (if submitted) swatches are inoculated with test organisms
  • Incubation period for 24 hours at body temperature
  • Bacteria are eluded from swatches by shaking them in known amounts of neutralizing solution
  • The number of bacteria present in liquid is determined, and the percentage reduction by the treated specimen is calculated

Organisms per test method: S. aureus ATCC 6538 and K.pneumoniae ATCC4352. Additional organisms for testing are available upon request.

In the absence of an untreated negative control, quantitative method AATCC 100 can be run by comparing start and end concentration of test organisms.
